Worlds Prep Complete

Revolver, as team USA, put the finishing touches on the worlds prep at practice this weekend, concluding with a 17-12 victory over a scrapy, up-and-coming Boost Mobile team flush with new talent from around the Bay Area.  Sky’d magazine’s Gil McIntyre was on hand for some pre-worlds coverage of the Bay Area open teams, and promised to make us look good in his footage – which we only sporadically managed to do on the scrimmage field.  Happily USA dodged a bullet as Bart Watson survived a loud and painful collision with a defender’s foot on a huck point-block attempt; just a serious bruise and he should be ready for the kickoff in Sakai.  Stay tuned for day-by-day write-ups and the latest hilarious cultural faux pas Beau commits as the team heads to Japan.

Any game vs Cal in 2011

Favorite Ultimate Player in Formative Years:
1. Russ Corbett-Detig – One of my best friends in college, caught a number of my throws for goals. Amazing competitor and always under appreciated and under the radar.
2. Ashlin Joye – Freakish talent and friend that fell in to the Davis Dog program’s lap in the second half of my college career and nothing was ever the same after that point.
3. Kevin Cissna – Mentally tough, amazing work ethic, inclined to do the right thing on the field every time, and a dork.
4. Patrick Lahey – Freakishly athletic and dominant and a Lahey.
5. An-chi Tsou and Greg Marliave – They have so much to give. How they still have enough in their tanks late in tournaments I have no idea.
6. Gabe Saunkeah – I’ve always been in awe of how he’s played growing up in the bay and playing against him in numerous Sectionals.
Favorite Tournament:
Junior Worlds 2006
Club Nationals

What makes you so dangerous?

You – me, pivot-off. You’ll see.
Theme Song:
Sugarhill Gang – Apache (jump on it)
Tenacious D – To be the Best

and if I ever end up having an explosive deep game…
James Brown – Get on up

Pre-tournament ritual:
I try to find ways to get what I need in the warmup – hit 100%, warmup my breaks, hucks, attacking the disc.
If I didn’t play ultimate, I would be:

employed. Nah, but I would have gone to Art/Design school.

Favorite non-ultimate teams:

Los Angeles Lakers
San Francisco Giants
San Francisco 49ers

Favorite Revolver player so far:
Tom James – Insane defender, especially on the mark, great competitor, and fuels the D-line with confidence.  Sam Kanner is a close second for similar reasons.

I have crushes on both of them.

Something unknown about me:

I want to dunk some day.
