Former teams:
San Francisco Jam (2002-2009)
Revolver (2010-present)

Accolades:
Northwest All-Region (2002-2004)
National champion (college: 2002)
National champion (club: 2008, 2010)
World champion, Team USA (World Games: 2005, 2009)
World champion (club Worlds: 2010)
Farricker Award (2010)

How I came to join Revolver:
Once it became clear that Jam wasn’t going to happen in 2010 (at least the way it needed to happen for it to really be Jam), Mike Payne and I set up a steady drinking and talking routine. Over many fine Belgian beers Mike’s rhetorical skill and my drunkenness convinced me Revolver was capable of awesome things. They (Mike and the drunkenness) were both right.

Funniest moment or joke on Revolver:
Chappie telling the pigeon story for the first time. That and watching half the team play Settlers of Catan in a Czech bar with a stripper pole.

Favorite game or tournament moment on Revolver:
For some reason I love semis. I’d say it’s a tie between semis at Worlds against Buzz Bullets and semis at Nationals against Doublewide. Both were amazing, close, well-played, big games and in both I had a blast.

Favorite game or tournament moment outside of Revolver:
Playing in a stadium is awesome. One of my favorite Ultimate moments is as a spectator at the World Games watching the other teams play while we were waiting to get on the field for our games. In particular, watching the end of the Taiwan-Japan game as Taiwan started coming back from a large deficit. There were probably 12,000-15,000 Taiwanese fans who were utterly into the game with constant cheering. The roar of the crowd as Taiwan scored a couple in a row to keep the game within reach was unbelievable. To hear a cheer like that for anything is powerful. To hear it for an Ultimate play is indescribable.

Favorite Ultimate player(s) in formative years:
1. Damien Scott as a player. He did it the right way better than anyone.
2. Mike Payne as a leader and teacher. Taught me what the sport was all about.

Favorite tournament:
1. For Fun – Paganello
2. For Serious – Club Nationals

What makes ___ so dangerous?
Mindset

Theme song:
Cruise Control – Do It Down Like That

Pre-game ritual:
Side note: I hate pre-game. Let’s play already!

I skip the additional stretching, I start 4-lines as the first thrower on the forehand side. I clap a lot. I stand as far outside the huddle as possible while still being a good teammate. I listen to one fire-up song. Game time.

What I like to eat on Saturday night of a tournament:
Whatever. Variety is the spice of life.

If I didn’t play Ultimate, my main pastime outside of work would be:
I’m open to suggestions.

Favorite sports team outside of Ultimate:
St. Louis Cardinals

In terms of Kanners, how tan are you?
I am 0.4 Kanners.

Something unknown about me:
I own two 1970s era Pioneer tube receivers. They rock.

College team(s):
UC Santa Cruz Slugs (2008-2011)

Former teams:

Accolades:
Recognized as a loving son.

How I came to join Revolver:
Cal States 2.0 went well and the endorsement of Daryl Nounnan didn’t hurt. Plus the shameless politicking by Russell really helped.

Funniest moment or joke on Revolver:
Nick’s pigeon story. Unfortunately, I wasn’t in the room for Baylis’ Life Story, so maybe that will change.

Favorite game or tournament moment outside of Revolver:
Coming back from a 5-0 hole to beat SDSU for the college Southwest Regional finals in 2011.

Favorite Ultimate player(s) in formative years:
Daryl Nounnan — His intensity and intelligence met my ceaseless questions with patient answers.

Favorite tournament:
Kaimana Klassik

What makes ___ so dangerous?
My speed and my flick are my two favorite weapons. And I think it bears repeating: hanging out with Russell always brings the danger out of any situation.

Theme song:
Ice Cube – You Know How We Do It

Pre-game ritual:
Try to stretch as much as possible, run a bit, hydrate, and enter the zen state.

What I like to eat on Saturday night of a tournament:
A burrito, but I am usually so desperate for calories that I’ll eat the first suggestion I hear.

If I didn’t play Ultimate, my main pastime outside of work would be:
Soccer, climbing, basketball, bass.

Favorite sports team outside of Ultimate:
San Jose Sharks, closely followed by the Giants and the W’s.

In terms of Kanners, how tan are you?
How many zeroes do you accept after the decimal?

Something unknown about me:
I am actually made of glass.

*Thank you, Nick Williams, for wearing me down (like water on rock) to finally give this sport a try.

Former teams:
San Francisco Jam (2005)
Revolver (2006-present)

Accolades:
“2006 Best Wingman” award for Revolver
“2008 Best Wingman” award for Revolver
“2010 Best Wingman” award for Revolver
1st place in 5th-8th grade school spelling bees

How I came to join Revolver:
I was cut by Justice League after Solstice in 2006. Nick Handler called me up a couple of days later, having heard this news, and invited me to play with his new team. He said that they needed a tall downfield cutter with good throws and that redheads were underrepresented. By the end of that season I knew that I wanted to play for Revolver for as long as possible.

Funniest moment or joke on Revolver:
1. The “pigeon story,” as performed by Nick Chapman.
2. The second, third, and fourth times that Louis Eisenberg lost credit card roulette. And that after each loss he maintained that he wouldn’t stop participating because, “The odds are always in my favor!”
3. Watching his parents meet “Seth,” Adam Fagin’s over-21 alter ego, at a restaurant in Seattle that apparently required everyone to show ID after 3:00p. Awkward!

Favorite game or tournament moment on Revolver:
Revolver expressed its deepest ethic and values at 2006 Northwest Regionals, all the way through. What a rollicking, rewarding tournament for such a young team.

Favorite game or tournament moment outside of Revolver:
In 2007 Ono took down the juggernaut Nada Mooger, which hadn’t lost in six years, in the finals at the Kaimana Klassik in Hawaii. Then… we lounged.

Favorite Ultimate player(s) in formative years:
In order, from the beginning of my career…
1. Jeff Eastham for his demeanor and humility.
2. Kevin Cissna for his intensity.
3. Ron Kubalanza for his forehand.
4. Mike Payne for his leadership.
5. Daryl Nounnan for his patience.
*To the youngsters out there — I advise learning patience as one of your first values, not your last.

Favorite tournament:
Club Nationals, mostly for the pint glass.

What makes ___ so dangerous?
The five pieces of metal inside my body.

Pre-game ritual:
Change socks. Then check on my wingman to ensure that he’s sunscreened, hydrated, snacked, and relaxed.

What I like to eat on Saturday night of a tournament:
Pasta with tomato sauce, chicken, and vegetables. And dessert. As my 91-year-old grandmother still says, “I believe in dessert.”

If I didn’t play Ultimate, my main pastime outside of work would be:
Trying to avoid injury while playing tennis, soccer, basketball, softball, and golf.

Favorite sports team outside of Ultimate:
FC Barcelona — algun dia mi hermanita me comprara un billete para el partido en el Estadi Camp Nou. Zach’s not invited.

Two truths and a lie:
1. Last season I threw a hammer to win Revolver’s first national championship. To that point, I had not thrown a single hammer in a game that entire season.
2. I played the entire WUCC 2010 tournament in Prague with a painful thrombosed hemorrhoid. Every step hurt.
3. After losing to Johnny Bravo on Saturday at Labor Day last year, I asked the waitress at Sushi Totoro to water down everyone’s drinks in hopes that we would play better on Sunday. It worked.

How I came to join Revolver:
A strong season with the East Bay Goaltimate Association (EBGA) gave me some exposure and momentum going into 2011 tryouts, which, capped off at Cal States, led to a roster spot.

Funniest moment or joke on Revolver:
Baylis’ Life Story… but I’ve only been with the team for a month or two, so that might be a little premature.

Favorite game or tournament moment outside of Revolver:
1. 2010 college Nationals pre-quarters vs. Oregon — an intense, highlight-filled game with a little revenge from Regionals.
2. Catching a Callahan over Sam Kanner at Centex 2009.

Favorite Ultimate player(s) in formative years:
1. Will Chen, captain my freshman year at Harvard, was the first “star” player I knew, and definitely was a big source of inspiration both from his play, on-field intuition, and motivational speeches.
2. Josh McCarthy, my coach at Harvard, helped bring up my level of play and shaped my mental game.

Favorite tournament:
Red Tide Clambake

What makes ___ so dangerous?
Long arms and years of goalkeeping (soccer).

Theme song:
Don’t Speak (I Came to Make a Bang), by EoDM

Pre-game ritual:
Drink some coffee, run Four Lines, and put on the headband.

What I like to eat on Saturday night of a tournament:
Pasta and a Neapolitan milkshake [from In N Out]

If I didn’t play Ultimate, my main pastime outside of work would be:
Soccer and cooking

Favorite sports team outside of Ultimate:
Real Madrid

If I could hang out with any famous person for a day, it would be:
Sir Richard Branson — probably the closest thing to The Most Interesting Man In The World alive today. I bet he has some incredible stories.

In terms of Kanners, how tan are you?
Kanner is tan?

Something unknown about me:
1. I once sneaked into the Giza pyramid complex in Egypt and climbed the Great Pyramid.
2. I have not appeared on American Idol.
