How I came to join Revolver:
In 2008, my college coach Ryo really pushed me to try out for Revolver, and the rest is history.

Funniest moment or joke on Revolver:
1. Chuck Kindred playing “Get Down On It” on the fiddle during a long break at practice.
2. Upon landing in Austin for Texas Shootout, riding in the car with Tom when the only sentence he seemed able to say was, “We have to go to Whataburger! We have to go to Whataburger!” and staring out the window like a little kid. And then we found a Whataburger and it was the best fast food meal I’ve ever had at a tournament.
3. Anything that happens at Sushi Totoro – tons of sushi, beer hockey, and credit card roulette.

Favorite game or tournament moment on Revolver:
2010 Worlds (WUCC). Being halfway around the world in Prague playing Ultimate against the best teams in the world was an amazing experience.

Favorite game or tournament moment outside of Revolver:
1. Catching the game-winning huck to qualify for 2009 College Nationals. I still smile when I think about it.
2. Winning Kaimana Klassik in 2010.

Favorite Ultimate player(s) in formative years:
1. Favorite player to watch – Jeff Cruickshank. His throws were so perfect, I could only dream about throwing like him.
2. Biggest influence – Ryo Kawaoka and Alexander Ghesquiere. As my college coaches, I just ate up everything they said.

Favorite tournament:
Nationals

What makes ___ so dangerous?
3/4 length tights.

Theme song:
AC/DC – For Those About to Rock

Pre-game ritual:
Taking forever to put on cleats, then drinking some sort of fake energy before warm-up.

What I like to eat on Saturday night of a tournament:
Steak

If I didn’t play Ultimate, my main pastime outside of work would be:
Reading, cooking, and napping.

Favorite sports team outside of Ultimate:
Colorado Avalanche

Accolades:
2001 Black Tide Rookie of the Year
2006 Ono team spirit award recipient
2010 “Best Puller / Worst Zone Deep” award for Revolver

How I came to join Revolver:
I followed Bart Watson.

Funniest moment or joke on Revolver:
1. Schlag arriving at the Siesta Key beach house at 9:00a on Monday after we won Nationals as we’re loading up the car to head to the airport. He rolls up from the direction of the beach, bewildered and covered in sand and asks Boo, “What the eff happened last night?” By the way, Boo made it it about 60 yards down Midnight Pass Rd before he asked me to pull over.
2. While waiting in the Jack In the Box drive-thru in Austin after Saturday’s game, Taylor (shirtless) is looking at himself in the passenger sun visor mirror and in an irritated tone says, “Look at me. I’m fat. This is disgusting.”
3. Beau telling us we’re at the wrong bar in Prague when we were at the wrong Popocafepico or whatever that place was called.
4. Jit’s relentless yelling. He was screaming about better marks in some meaningless game and somebody from the other team asked one of us if he was always like that, to which we replied, “Yep.”

Favorite game or tournament moment on Revolver:
Revolver vs Journeymen in pool play at Northwest Regionals 2010.

Favorite game or tournament moment outside of Revolver:
Beating Colorado in the finals of 2004 college Southwest Regionals.

Favorite Ultimate player(s) in formative years:
1. Taylor Cascino – He used to be sick. It was kind of weird when I first realized that I was as good as him in 2005 when we played on the Condors.
2. Nick Fiske – Great captain and attitude. Favorite quote was, “Winners never have excuses.”
3. Mike Brown – Never hesitated in speaking his mind to me. It was all sh**-talk but it was what he was really thinking. It’s weird how much I hated him when we’d battle in practice and how much I liked winning with him at tournaments. He’s like your little brother–you like to fight him but when somebody else gets in his face, you attack.
4. Alex Roedel – The sickest performance that I’ve ever witnessed from a teammate was his at 2007 Southwest Regionals against Johnny Bravo.

Favorite tournament:
Nationals

What makes ___ so dangerous?
My left forearm when I’m throwing a flick.

Theme song:
Queen – We Are the Champions

Pre-game ritual:
40 yard sprints

What I like to eat on Saturday night of a tournament:
The same thing I eat almost every night — a burrito.

If I didn’t play Ultimate, my main pastime outside of work would be:
Ideally, paragliding. One day.

In terms of Kanners, how tan are you?
I can go without sunscreen.

Date of birth:
5 November 1980

Place of birth:
St. Louis Park, MN

Current city of residence:
Oakland, CA

Occupation:
PhD Candidate (soon-to-be-PhD) at Cal-Berkeley in Political Science

College team(s):
Stanford Bloodthirsty (2000-2003)
Cal-Berkeley UgMo (2004)

Former teams:
San Francisco Jam (2002-2009)
Revolver (2010-present)

Accolades:
Northwest All-Region (2002-2004)
National champion (college: 2002)
National champion (club: 2008, 2010)
World champion, Team USA (World Games: 2005, 2009)
World champion (club Worlds: 2010)
Farricker Award (2010)

How I came to join Revolver:
Once it became clear that Jam wasn’t going to happen in 2010 (at least the way it needed to happen for it to really be Jam), Mike Payne and I set up a steady drinking and talking routine. Over many fine Belgian beers Mike’s rhetorical skill and my drunkenness convinced me Revolver was capable of awesome things. They (Mike and the drunkenness) were both right.

Funniest moment or joke on Revolver:
Chappie telling the pigeon story for the first time. That and watching half the team play Settlers of Catan in a Czech bar with a stripper pole.

Favorite game or tournament moment on Revolver:
For some reason I love semis. I’d say it’s a tie between semis at Worlds against Buzz Bullets and semis at Nationals against Doublewide. Both were amazing, close, well-played, big games and in both I had a blast.

Favorite game or tournament moment outside of Revolver:
Playing in a stadium is awesome. One of my favorite Ultimate moments is as a spectator at the World Games watching the other teams play while we were waiting to get on the field for our games. In particular, watching the end of the Taiwan-Japan game as Taiwan started coming back from a large deficit. There were probably 12,000-15,000 Taiwanese fans who were utterly into the game with constant cheering. The roar of the crowd as Taiwan scored a couple in a row to keep the game within reach was unbelievable. To hear a cheer like that for anything is powerful. To hear it for an Ultimate play is indescribable.

Favorite Ultimate player(s) in formative years:
1. Damien Scott as a player. He did it the right way better than anyone.
2. Mike Payne as a leader and teacher. Taught me what the sport was all about.

Favorite tournament:
1. For Fun – Paganello
2. For Serious – Club Nationals

What makes ___ so dangerous?
Mindset

Theme song:
Cruise Control – Do It Down Like That

Pre-game ritual:
Side note: I hate pre-game. Let’s play already!

I skip the additional stretching, I start 4-lines as the first thrower on the forehand side. I clap a lot. I stand as far outside the huddle as possible while still being a good teammate. I listen to one fire-up song. Game time.

What I like to eat on Saturday night of a tournament:
Whatever. Variety is the spice of life.

If I didn’t play Ultimate, my main pastime outside of work would be:
I’m open to suggestions.

Favorite sports team outside of Ultimate:
St. Louis Cardinals

In terms of Kanners, how tan are you?
I am 0.4 Kanners.

Something unknown about me:
I own two 1970s era Pioneer tube receivers. They rock.
